The fictional Special Beam Cannon is a directed energy
attack in the
anime
Dragonball Z. It was created by
Piccolo as a new attack to destroy his then arch-enemy
Goku, and succeeded in killing both Goku and Goku's brother
Radditz.
Cell was the only other character in Dragonball Z to use this
technique, as Piccolo's DNA was part of Cell's genetic makeup. It is last
used in the final battle between Cell and the
Z fighters.
The move is performed by touching the index and middle fingers of one
hand to the forehead and charging enough energy to attack. When ready the
fingers are extended forward and the attacker shouts "Special Beam Cannon"
while a thin curly-cue like ray of energy is released. The main
disadvantage of the attack is the time required to build up enough energy
for the focused burst, a problem which apparently did not bother the Cell
Juniors in the
Cell games. Piccolo's maximum power rating for this attack was 1,440
on his second try.
