Saicho - Japanese Buddhist monk
 

Saicho (最澄, 767-822) is a Japanese Buddhist monk credited with bringing the Esoteric school of Tendai from China and founding the temple and headquarters of Enryakuji on Mt. Hiei, near Kyoto. After his death, he was awarded the posthumous title of Dengyo Daishi.
