The Boom - Japanese rock band

The Boom is the Japanese rock band. Its members are Miyazawa Kazusi (vocals), Kobayashi Koji (guitar), Yamakawa Kousei (bass guitar), and Tochigi Takao (drums).

They came out at 1989. Vocalist Miyazawa Kazusi who wrote all the lyrics and compose all the songs on The Boom, was affected by the Okinawa musics. He tried to make some Okinawa songs. "Shima-uta" is the song which uses beautiful Okinawa scales. A single CD "Shima-uta" was released in 1993, and it sold well and many people listened to this CD. Finally, the total sales of the CD "Shima-uta", was about 1.5 million and this song made this band to become a popular group. At December 31th 1993, The Boom participated to the "Kouhaku-utagasen". This is kind of a music show that only popular musicians can participate.

After they released "Shima-uta", this group wrote lots of good songs like "Kaze-ni Naritai", "Kaero-kana", and "Tsukisaemo-nemuruyoru". Miyazawa Kazusi tried to write more Okinawa songs, and this group made a album that included just only Okinawa Songs. He sang some Okinawa folk songs and he respected the Okinawa folk songs.

The vocalist of this group, "Miyazawa Kazusi" sometimes made solo albums. He wrote some songs that has peculiar atmosphere. Also he sometimes compose songs to the other musicians. For example, there're "Akiko Yano", "Kyoko Koizumi", and "Rimi Natsukawa". Miyazawa Kazusi's hometown is not Okinawa, but many people have misunderstanding that his hometown is Okinawa.

Many people sing the song "Shima-uta", and also the oversea musicians sing this song. A good example is that recently many people in Argentina bought the "Shima-uta" CD. A man who is singing this song is a popular comedian in Argentina. He didn't translate the lyrics to their own language. Of course the people in Argentina don't what he's saying, but many people in Argentina have a good vibration to this song. The Boom and this comedian play with each other at the World Cup 2002.
