Bright future is a film directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa and starring Joe Ogadiri, Tadanobu Asano, Tatsuya Fuji, Takashi Sasano and Marumi Shiraishi. Shown in both the Cannes Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival in 2003, it has grown beyond the borders of Japan and gained international recognition.

"... every time I make a new film, I challenge something new, and I do not feel like making the same kind of films all the time. There was some time between Pulse and this one, thus, I included something new, different from my old stuff."

Kiyoshi Kurosawa

The story opens with an enigmatic Mamaru who lives alone with his poisonous but hauntingly luminous jellyfish. These attractive loners sting whoever gets too close. Yuji, an emotionally unstable young man working at the same factory, is fascinated and influenced by Mamaru. When Mamaru is arrested for murdering his boss, Yuji is devoted to taking care of his jellyfish and, befriending Mamaru’s father, he begins to open his eyes to reality.
