I have a question about buying anime DVDs for my kids for Christmas. They are 10 and 12 years old and became huge fans of Japanese animation starting with Pokemon. I want to get them more variety and have been looking at several shopping sites that have an incredible selection of videos and comic books. There is the problem. I have seen some of these advertised that are obviously not for kids. I was really suprised by some of the covers showing things I wouldn't dare let them see. Some sites show an "adults only" warning but not all. Am I to guess from the cover which might be OK?

Can any other parents or fans suggest a series that won't have too much sex or violence, or any? I am looking for a series so I can add more for birthdays or other whatever. They seem to get hooked on one thing or another and want more of the same.

All suggestions in time for x-mas welcome!

Sorry I don't have a suggestion for you but I am a collector of manga. I think the covers you are talking about on some sites are probably not anime but manga which are adult comics. Yes, these are not for kids, at least many are not.

I think you should go to Amazon and read the reviews from others who have purchased anime. These are very useful. I don't like to support Amazon when there are many smaller sites that do a better job of selling Japanese anime and manga but for a novice it may be best. I don't even think they sell the real adult stuff but I maybe wrong since I don't shop there.

Hello, my name is Robert Key, I also am a fan of anime, I think they would like Kaleido Star, its 12+ ages, but its a great anime for a younger crowd. Its about a girl named Sora, that follows her dream in going to a circus and she almost doesn't get it, the owner allows her to join, but she must give everything she has to be employed at Kaleido Stage. She meets a few new friends and later on meets a spirit called Fool, he is the Spirit of the Stage and tells her she is the choosen one to do the Ledgendary Great Manuver. She then later forms a partenership with Kaleido Stage's star, Miss Layla, who also sees the spirit after she accepts her. There is a small kissing sence, however, just a kiss on the cheek, the girl Roseta, kisses Sora on the cheek. I hope this helps you!!!

Try Monster Rancher, it has fighting in it yes, but when a monster dies they kinda burst into little dots and dissappear, I have never seen any blood or sex related sences in it.

Thanks for the replies. Very helpful!

Now I have a whole new problem. Their uncle is giving them an X-box and I agreed to get some games for it if he did. At least these have a rating system so I can figure it out. Plus their father likes flight simulators.

I will look at the anime you guys suggested. Thanks again.

An anime game for X-box would be Guilty Gear X2, I love that game! Its a fighting game, no blood, a little cussing, but thats on story mode and you can't understand them because its in Japanese!:shade:
