Ancient Clan History

I am trying to find out some information on the Yuki Clan. I have found some information about being the Daimyo of Shimosa during the 12th through 15th centuries, but have found very little information on them. I would like to find out details about this clan and how they started and specifically their clan symbol and the meaning of this symbol. I found this symbol on the samurai-archives page and have been drawing it long before ever seeing it. Does anyone have information on this?

This is a tough one for me. I'm not that knowledgeable on Japan's ancient history. I even searched Flags Of The World (http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/) and did not find anything. They have a huge collection of Japanese Feudal flags. It may be worth digging into their data further than I did since they often list bits of historical information with each flag. Start at the list of flags related to Japan (http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/jp.html).

Other than that, please have some patience. Let's hope that a passerby has some information or another source with relevant information.

Thanks Doug M I appreciate you trying to help! I can only find a symbol or so called family crest but have yet to find a feudal flag. I tried to find an email for a professor at the University of Chiba that was once Shimosa in the earlier centuries, but all I can find is his name. And, from reading some of the previous posts on this site, know that posting a name appears to be taboo.

You may post a name. The things I want to avoid are posting emails, addresses or phone numbers of persons without their consent.

Recently a member of Brigham Young University's staff posted an article to Japan-101 on Japanese Rice Trade Policy (http://www.japan-101.com/government/rice_trade_policy.htm). While the subject is unrelated, you will find enough information in that article page to visit their Japanese studies dept website and maybe find someone willing to look into your inquiry.

Though not a scholar of Japanese history, I can tell you that Yuki is not a family name. It actually means "snow". As you go about your search keep in mind it is not likely you will find decendents who carry that name.

Not a huge amount of activity but check out The Samurai History Forum (http://s4.invisionfree.com/Samurai_History/index.php). I may see who's behind this. Someone with a keen interest in Japan's ancient history would be good to know.

the snadaclan is the best espically sanada yukimura he cam charging down from osaka to the toukagawa camp and came within striking distance before he was shot of his horse and died but he was so close it was untrue i mean just think if he had manged to pull it of what would thinkgs be like in japan now

just realaised i have made a mistake so im writng it again the sanda clan is the best because they were classed really highly and almost all of them were involved in the battles for the takeda clan aginst the oda yukimura charged down at the battle of osaka against the toukagawa on his own and came within striking distance of ieyasu toukagawa

The ancestor of the Yuki clan was FUJIWARA Yoriyuki who was a FUJIWARA Hidesato's descendant.
When the time of Tomomitsu, the clan came to call themselves as Yuki which was the name of their new territory.

The crest Tomoe expresses the gushes of whirlpool.
It also means the form of Magatama (gem) and of Tomo (equipment covering samurai's bow hand).

by yuki clan do you mean the sanada or just another time period? anyway what else do you know about cause this and chinese history is my biggest intrest and before anyone says it i have got all of the dynasty games made by koei and hav finsihed the fourth series to the fullest still need to do dynasty tactics but really cant be botherd
oh yeah does anyone know why the toyotomi wanted to get rid of samurais when they were using them in battle? and does anyone else think that the oda are just stupid Nobunaga was trying to bring catholiscim (if thats how you spell it?) in to Japan and he called his castle "the demon castle" i did find that out somewere but cant remeber the address ill find it for ya if you want it
