Chuo-ku - Japan Ward Name Prefix

Chuo-ku (chūo-ku) is a common ward name in many large Japanese cities. Just as Main Street is a popular street name in the US.

Although the name translated literally as central district, it does not simply mean downtown. These wards should be seen more like cities in the United States. They are one of administrative units. Chuo-kus is a name of several places:

  • Chuo-ku, Sapporo
  • Chuo-ku, Saitama
  • Chuo-ku, Chiba
  • Chuo-ku, Tokyo
  • Chuo-ku, Osaka
  • Chuo-ku, Kobe
  • Chuo-ku, Fukuoka
  • Chuo-ku, Hiroshima
  • Chuo-ku, Nagasaki
