Hull Note - De Facto Ultimatum from the United States to Japan

The Hull note was the de facto ultimatum delivered to Japan by the United States on November 26th, 1941. It is formally called "Out line of proposed Basis for Agreement Between The United States and Japan".

To avoid a hopeless war, Japan struggled to achieve peace with the U.S. However, the U.S. selected the hardest note among some choices, which Japan would have never accepted. This note inevitably led Japan to start the war. As a result, the U.S. managed to get involved in World War II without public opposition or breaking her Neutrality Act.
