Satsuma Rebellion - revolt of the Satsuma clan against Imperial Japanese Army

The Satsuma Rebellion was a revolt of the Satsuma clan against the Imperial Japanese Army. The rebellion was led by Saigo Takamori, that was an earlier field marshall and a minister in the government. The rebellion was crushed by the imperial army in the Battle of Shiroyama in September 24, 1877, one of the last battles between samurais and a modern army using firearms.
