In
a country plagued by crimes committed both by and against minors this movie ,
written and directed by Hirokazu Koreeda is a stark lesson about what can happen
when children are left to their own devices.
This voyeuristic, non-judgmental
look at how four children deal with their abandonment is what you would get if
Todd Solondz directed Home Alone. Starring Yuya Yagira as the oldest of the four
siblings we watch him pass into puberty while already acting as patriarch.
Winner of Best Actor at Cannes, among other awards, Quentin Tarantino said he
would never forget his eyes. Based on real events in 1988 the gritty reality is
much more horrific than the movie. The reality makes you question the very
society you live in and should make us look around.
There is a lot happening under our noses that we could prevent from turning
sour. While it is not the most exciting movie, I recommend it to all parents and
would-be parents. It could possibly provide a valuable lesson. Remember,
children are just children and they learn from us. |
