Yokohama Subway

The Yokohama subway network in Yokohama, Japan is operated by two groups.

Yokohama City Subway

Yokohama City Subway (横浜市営地下鉄), operated by the Yokohama City Board of Public Transportation, runs the following lines:

  • Line 1, from Kannai to Shonandai
  • Line 3, from Kannai to Azamino

Lines 1 and 3 are currently operated together with trains running through from Shonandai to Azamino. At 40.4 km, this is the second-longest subway in Japan after the Toei O-Edo Line in Tokyo.

The following lines are under construction:

  • Line 4, from Hiyoshi to Nakayama

Line 4 is scheduled for completion in 2007. It will form the first part of the planned Yokohama Ring Railway.

The missing Line 2 was supposed to connect Kanagawa-Shinmachi with Byobugaura, but it has been cancelled for time being.

Yokohama High Speed Rail

The Yokohama High Speed Rail Company (横浜高速鉄道株式会社) is a semi-private consortium of Yokohama city, Kanagawa prefecture and the Tokyo Kyuko Electric Railway. They run the following subway line:

  • Minato Mirai Line, from Yokohama Station to Chinatown via the Minato Mirai 21 development
