The SNK VS. Series is a collection of
video games by either
Capcom or
SNK in which characters that appear in games created by both of these
two companies appear. The "VS. Series" terminology originates from the
fact that many of these games (but not all) are fighting games, while "SNK"
is added to distinguish itself from Capcom's other VS. Series with
Marvel Comics.
As a rule, games in this series either contain "SNK Vs. Capcom" or "Capcom
Vs. SNK", the first company denoting the company behind the game's
publication. Games in this series appear for various platforms, including
the
Sony Playstation,
Nintendo Gamecube,
Microsoft X-Box,
Neo-Geo Pocket, and
Sega Dreamcast.
The supposed origin behind this series was an issue of Arcadia
magazine in which there were articles covering both The King of
Fighters '98 and Street Fighter Alpha 3, both of which were
released at around the same time period. Readers had misread the cover,
which said "KOF vs SF", to mean that there was a fighting game that would
pit characters from
Street Fighter and
The King of Fighters.
Fighting Games
- Capcom Vs. SNK - Millenium Fight 2000
- Also known as Capcom Vs. SNK - Millenium Battle 2000 in
Japan.
- A second version of the game, called Capcom Vs. SNK Pro was
released to include the supposed "champions" of the Millenium Fight
tournament.
- Capcom Vs. SNK 2 - Mark of the Millenium 2001
- Also known as Capcom Vs. SNK 2 - Millionaire Fighting 2001
in Japan.
- The
Nintendo Gamecube and
Microsoft X-Box versions of this game were called Capcom Vs. SNK
2 EO to introduce a feature called "Easy Operation", where special
moves were performed using movement of an analog stick instead of the
traditional fighting game motions.
- SNK Vs. Capcom - Match of the Millenium
- Also known as SNK Vs. Capcom - Choujou Kessen Saikyou Fighters
in Japan.
- SVC Chaos - SNK Vs. Capcom
Non-Fighting Games
Although not commonly referred to as members of the SNK Vs. Series
(since they are not fighting games), nevertheless they are part of the
series, and they do involve characters from both Capcom and SNK.
- SNK Vs. Capcom - Card Fighters Clash
- This was an electronic
trading card game in which cards represented the various Capcom and
SNK characters. There were two versions of this game: SNK and Capcom,
indicating the game with the higher amount of characters from that
company. Physical trading cards have also been created, with slightly
differing rules.
- SNK Vs. Capcom - Card Fighters 2 Expand Edition
- This was an electronic
trading card game that expanded upon the first to include characters
from Capcom Vs. SNK 2.
